Curbside Cabinet Updated

Curbside Cabinet Updated

I needed storage in our master bathroom.  Our new house is very limited on storage so I need something that I could put over the toilet that could hold cleaning supplies and some other items.

This cabinet was a solid piece of wood and I was so excited. I knew I could make this work for me. I found this cabinet beside the curb last week and I knew I needed it. Someone had put it out for pickup, and that was me. Here is what it looked like when I found it.

Someone had actually painted the piece. It was not a stencil.

Although it was pretty, it did not go in my bathroom.  I had to paint it, but first I had to sand the flowers and then put a coat of Kilns on it and then painted it all white.

I put a few decorative items on the bottom shelf. The mustache mug and brush were my Dad's.

I have thought of putting a stencil on the doors but I have not found one I like yet.

I was able to put most of my cleaners in there and still add some decorative items as well. Don't you just love those curbside pieces, especially when they serve such a great purpose.

Recycled Pretzel Containers

My neighbor had these pretzel containers that were heading into her recycle bin. I just knew that I could use them. They sat in the garage for awhile and then I knew what to do with them.

I was organizing the cat and dog food and need containers for Claire, our cat's food and one for Marina's extra food. So many plastic containers are too small, but these are a nice size.

Thrifty Reasons to Save Old Containers

As bloggers, we come up with some awesome ideas for upcycling containers. I am so proud of all these ideas that keep old containers out of landfills. You can see a few upcycled ideas that I have gather from Hometalk in the graphic below.

Spice rack goes to school

While visiting my daughter in LA, we stopped by her school (she teaches 5th grade). I was checking out her classroom and noticed a spice rack. She had purchased it at a garage sale, but her house had a built in spice rack. What to do with it?

Recycled Chair as Flower Pot

I have this thing for chairs, well lots of things actually, but really chairs. I guess I feel the need to rescue them sometimes. This was the case with the well worn, or as my husband says, "garbage" chairs. I was taking the dogs for a ride on the golf cart, their favorite thing to do, and spotted these chairs on top of a pile of other junk and tree trimmings.

They weren't in bad shape except for the fact that the seat was gone. Does that count?

Repurposed Mirror into a Message Board

Awhile back I found this mirror at a garage sale with these other items.Wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but for only $1, I would find something.

Beadboard Valentine

Last  week as I was cleaning out my barn, I found many small pieces of wood trim. If you saw My Unordinary Valentine, you know that I used the trim pieces to make that valentine. I found a piece of bead board that we used in the bathroom. My husband cut this piece wrong and we were going to throw it out, but I thought it might make another valentine for the front door at our other house. This one is a more traditional valentine.

Upcycle Projects

As I look around blogland(is that a word?) I see so many wonderful and crafty projects that convert old or discarded materials into something useful and often beautiful. I recently ran across some projects that fall into this category and I would like to share them with you. Some of them you may have upcycled yourself and others might provide new ideas. Enjoy!

This first set is for the birds. Won't they like this for a house?
